What is Concrete Mix Calculator?

Calculate nominal mix proportions for M10, M15, M20, M25 concrete or generate initial parameters for Design Mix as per IS 10262:2019.

Nominal Mix vs. Design Mix

Nominal Mixis used for regular construction work where the mix proportions are fixed (e.g., M20 is 1:1.5:3). It is suitable for grades up to M25 as per IS 456:2000.

Design Mixis used for high-strength concrete (M30 and above) where proportions are scientifically calculated based on material testing and target strength. This follows the IS 10262:2019 guidelines.

How to Design a Concrete Mix

Standard operating procedure for proportioning concrete elements.

1

Select Target Grade

Determine the strength requirement based on structural analysis (e.g., M25 for columns).
2

Calculate Target Strength

f'ck = fck + 1.65 × S (where S is standard deviation). This ensures a 95% probability of meeting the grade.
3

Adjust for Exposure

Increase cement content or decrease W/C ratio for severe environments (Coastal, Industrial) per IS 456 Table 5.
4

Batching Methods

Use weigh-batching for commercial projects or volume-batching for small residential works with appropriate compensation for bulking.

Technical FAQ & Regulatory Compliance

1
What is the "M" and the "Number" in M20?

M stands for Mix and 20 stands for the characteristic compressive strength of 150mm cubes at 28 days in N/mm² (MPa).

2
Does the calculator account for bulking of sand?

Yes, NiyamX includes a toggle for bulking of sand. Moist sand occupies more volume than dry sand, requiring a volume correction in the mix.

3
Is M30 a nominal mix?

No. As per IS codes, nominal mixes are only provided up to M25. For M30 and above, a proper design mix as per IS 10262 must be performed.
