How to Check Beam Deflection

Identify Loading Pattern

Determine if the beam is simply supported, fixed, or cantilevered. Sum up dead, live, and super-imposed loads.

Input the percentage of tension reinforcement (Pt). Pt significantly influences the calculation of effective moment of inertia.

What value of E (Modulus of Elasticity) is used for Concrete?

For short-term deflection, Ec = 5000 √fck is used. For long-term deflection, the creep coefficient (θ) is applied: Ecoeff = Ec / (1 + θ).

Is shear deflection included?

Standard structural calculators focus on flexural deflection. For very deep beams (Span/Depth < 2), shear deflection becomes significant and should be checked separately.
